“Mix Hot Spring Cold Spring” Method

“Mix Hot Spring Cold Spring” Method

1. Before entering the hot spring, shower with warm water.

2. First, spend 10 min in the hot spring, then 1 min in the cold spring. Repeat back and forth 2-3 times = 1 round. (The time spent in the hot spring compared to cold spring is a ratio of 10:1. Depending on each individual’s health, please make adjustments accordingly. The standard is to leave the hot spring once sweating begins. After leaving the hot spring take a break and after the body finishes sweating, wipe off the sweat with a cold wet towel. After doing so, you may then enter the cold spring. The process is the same for reentering the hot spring)

3. If you started in the hot spring, you must finish in the hot spring. (This can stimulate the skin and increase blood circulation, making the hot spring experience relaxing. However if you finish in the cold spring, it may cause joint pains)

4. If there are no cold springs, you may substitute it with a cold shower. (After being in the hot spring, turn the shower’s temperature to cold water, then start with the top of the right foot, to the hip, then to the front of the right foot. Follow these steps from the right foot, left foot, right hand, left hand, neck, head, and abdomen. Although a bit tedious, the effects are similar to those in the cold spring. This is also safer than immersing yourself directly in the cold spring.

5. According to research done in Japan, it’s recommended that one uses the hot spring 2-3 times a day. If one uses the hot spring in the morning, one will feel energetic all day. It’s different from being in the hot spring for the purpose of sweating and easing one to sleep.
